About Kara Birch, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC
Kara Birch received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Tennessee in 2012. She is a dual board-certified Family and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with 13+ years of progressive leadership experience spanning academic medical centers, safety-net health systems, and high-growth digital health platforms. Proven success building and continuously improving programs at scale, integrating AI for operational efficiency, and leading cross functional teams across product, engineering, growth, operations, and business domains. Her passion for making evidence-based mental health care more accessible has led her to integrating and improving mental health systems across the U.S. In addition to training in several therapy modalities she has undergone additional peri-natal specific training from Massachusetts General Hospital and Postpartum Support International to serve patients with compassion and expertise.

Dr. Birch received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Tennessee in 2012 with dual training as a Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner. She is dual board certified and has additional therapy training in CBT, IFS, ACT, and PST. Her approach is grounded in culturally sensitive and compassionate care paired with the highest quality of evidence based care.

Dr. Birch has provided clinical strategy, quality, product, and systems consultation, as well as subject matter expertise to numerous startup, healthcare, and academic institutions. She thrives when she is simplifying and improving complex or ambiguous problems. Her love for cross-functional collaboration and technological innovation means that whether she is working with the c-suite or engineering she can help everyone at the table find solutions that work. She has additional training from MIT on AI in healthcare, as well as quality improvement and Lean methodology.

Dr. Birch has over 10 years of experience as a graduate and post-graduate educator. From leading the first ever UC multi-campus state-wide PMHNP program to incorporating restorative justice practice into the educational curriculum, she believes that access to high quality education is critical to the future of nursing and patient care.
